Abstract from Jacques Matthey
Mission for reconciliation and unity
Jacques Matthey, in charge of mission studies for the World Council of Churches,
has extended the work of the 13th World Council (Athens, May 2005) with a
series of propositions calling for a revival of pneumatology, that is, the
theology of the Holy Spirit. This subject is moving from the fringes and
is becoming a central issue within mission studies. The effective participation
of orthodox Christians in this work is a presage of things to come. Professor
Kirsteen Kim has, very cautiously, drawn up a list of criteria for discerning
the Spirit, opposing any misguided stances arising from possibly elated behaviour,
albeit naturally in good faith.
